Ramkumar Hariharan, PhD

Ramkumar Hariharan, PhD leads applied AI at macro-eyes. He has successfully led diverse, high-impact machine and deep learning projects at a series of world-renowned medical research institutions: RIKEN center for Integrative Medical Sciences in Japan; the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle (where he worked with legendary geneticist Lee Hood); The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.

His areas of focus include advanced statistical data analyses, data visualization, and predictive analysis of both structured and unstructured data. He has worked on data-driven genomic investigations at the University of Oxford, UK, and at RIKEN, Japan where he was visiting scientist. Ram originally started out as computational biology faculty in a federal institute in India, and has a PhD in the subject.

Ram has more than 500 citations across 20 of his peer-reviewed scientific publications, serves as invited reviewer for several prestigious journals, was one of only two British Council Researcher Exchange Program award winners in 2007 from India, was an invited external grant proposals reviewer for Hong Kong research foundation and for the Government of Poland, and has contributed to successful research proposals in the US.

Ram serves as affiliate faculty at Northeastern University, bootcamp leader at General Assembly, and a course mentor with Springboard.

Ram is a storyteller at heart; when he’s not storytelling with data, he is writing children’s stories or frivolous articles. He believes in combining education with entertainment, and will never give up an opportunity to talk to large audiences with some stand-up comedy thrown in!
